Eviction Notice Timeline

Choose your state to see the notice a landlord must give for unpaid rent and what happens at each step after.

How this tool works: method and sources

  1. The notice period is the number of days in your state’s nonpayment statute, shown only where verified.
  2. The later steps (filing, answer, hearing, judgment, writ) are a general order of events. We list no day counts for them because courts and counties set their own.
  3. The state data in this tool was researched from primary sources (state codes and attorney general guides) and checked November 2026. Each result links the statute it uses. If a rule is marked not verified, the tool shows no number for it.
