Choose your state and move-out date to see when your deposit is due back, the deposit cap and the penalty.
How this tool works: method and sources
- The deadline is your move-out date plus the verified number of days in your state’s deposit statute.
- The cap and penalty come from the same statute and are shown only if verified for your state.
- Where a rule is not verified, the tool names the statute to check and gives no number.
- The state data in this tool was researched from primary sources (state codes and attorney general guides) and checked November 2026. Each result links the statute it uses. If a rule is marked not verified, the tool shows no number for it.
